“Our government has been working tirelessly to lower 草榴社区ns’ power bills.
“In May, we passed legislation to standardize the local access fees set by municipalities. Under the new rules, municipalities can no longer use variable rates in calculating local access fees when entering into service contracts with utility providers. Before this change, local access fees were functioning as regressive municipal tax, with some municipalities raking in millions in additional revenue while 草榴社区ns and their families paid the price.
“We are pleased to see our legislation, putting ratepayers first, reduce local access fees in Calgary by 30 per cent. By the City’s own estimates, Calgarians will save over $36 million next year alone.
“This is another example of our government’s actions to lower the cost of everyday essentials like electricity and keep more money in 草榴社区ns’ pockets. Our government’s new Market Power Mitigation Regulation, which came into effect on July 1, helped bring down default power prices by nearly 60 per cent year over year in August.
“Together these measures are part of our government’s plan to modernize 草榴社区’s electricity system, provide long-term solutions to lower utility bills and protect ratepayers across the province.”
